The WAPACC Organization
The WAPACC, a not-for-profit organization, was established by Lilian H. Zirpolo and Joanna Gardner-Huggett in 1998 for the purpose of organizing conferences, lectures, and symposia and of publishing art history materials. Its name derives from the Women Art Patrons and Collectors Conference held at the New York Public Library on March 18-20, 1999. Until recently, most of our efforts have focused on the launching of aurora, the increase of its subscription base, and the attainment of its financial solvency. These goals have been accomplished and aurora is now in its tenth year.
On October 27-29, 2006 the WAPACC Organization hosted a second conference, titled Constructions of Death, Mourning, and Memory, at the Woodcliff Lake Hilton in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. The event was well attended by scholars from the U.S., Canada, Latin America, and Europe and, we are happy to report, was a complete success. The conference abstracts and proceedings were published as the first two volumes of our newly-established Text and Studies Series. We will continue to develop the series and offer further high quality art history publications in the near future.
